According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the recent rate of aviation accidents is low - about 1 per 100,000 flight hours.  Modern avionics have made flying in private aircraft safer and more enjoyable.

Thanks to GPS and other technology, flying in instrument conditions (IFR) has become considerably easier and safer.  The other thing to remember about flying is that, unlike driving, safety is governed primarily by the pilot.  When I fly around Georgetown, I often don't even see another airplane in the air.   Our roads and highways are another story!

Our airport, Georgetown Municipal (KGTU) has a great safety record.  In the entire history of the airport, there has only been one fatal accident at the airport (occurred in 1998, due to an overloaded airplane - i.e., pilot error.)

Georgetown was allocated a federal control tower in 2005.   The tower handles all flight operations and maintains a safe environment around the airport, approving all takeoffs, approaches, and landings.  The airport has automated weather, available by phone at 512-869-3430.  Give it a call!

The aircraft I fly are based at Pilot's Choice Aviation.  Pilot's Choice has an impeccable safety record.   This Fixed Base operator (FBO) has trained thousands of pilots over its 30-year history.   (Check out their Choice Pilot's page - quite impressive!)  Pilot's Choice maintains their airplanes to the highest of avaiation maintenance standards.
